reuse, recycle, renew - earth day

Earth Day is less than two weeks away, so we are keeping our April posts focused on being gentle to our environment.

Here at STRUCTUREbags we are always looking for ways to reuse, upcycle or regift – in a good way!

In November STRUCTUREbags celebrated its first year of business with a bash. To thank our loyal and welcome our new fans we created fabric goodie bags and stuffed them full of chocolates and tea. Our tag not only thanked them, it asked them to repurpose their bag:

  • Upcycle me! fill with scented potpourri & sew closed for a fab sachet
  • Reuse me! fill with treats and give as a hostess gift.
  • Repurpose me! fill with tissue and a gift card and use as a gift card holder.

There are so many ways to upcycle, reuse, or regift. Here are a few ideas to keep your eyes on the prowl for ways to have fun doing this.

  1. Regift (to yourself): A friend and neighbor is always treating us to sweet gifts at holiday time. For Valentine’s Day we received a mini Mason jar filled with crackers and topped with ribbon. This little jar is now my daughter's (“Little STRUCTUREbag's”) first drinking glass. She loves the practice of being careful, and I love that its chunky-safe shape is just the right size for small hands.
  2. Repurpose: Have a plant stand that seems past its prime? Add a wooden top with a few screws and finish with a fresh coat of spray paint and you’ve got a fun new side table. We chose white – but why not spice it up with a trendy color? This is a perfect opportunity to try something fun in the family room for less than five bucks.
  3. Reuse (watch the little ones): I purchased some beautiful hand-crafted, organic soaps from Poppy Soap Co. that are packaged in small, cinching muslin bags. “Little STRUCTUREbags” just loves to use these mini bags to fill with bracelets, small figurines and more. She tucks it in her (STRUCTURE)bag and goes!
  4. Upcycle: We moved in to an older home with a few DIY built-ins past their prime. We replaced them with new units to fit our needs then went to work with the old wood. The plywood and 2x4s became printer platforms, shed shelving and remember the plant stand conversion? Check!

So keep your repurposing eyes peeled and let your creative juices flow. Mother Earth and your pocketbook will thank you.

And don’t forget to share your ideas here and on our Facebook page. STRUCTUREbags wants some new ideas, too…
